室町前期の京は、足利将軍家による室町幕府樹立によって武家の政治体制の強化が始まり、天皇家の社会的地位が低下し始めた。そのなかで、夢窓疎石を国師に迎えて禅宗（主に臨済宗）を保護し、天龍寺創建や西芳寺再興にみる庭園文化の転換期にあった。このような背景の中で、この武家（主に足利将軍家）、公家（主に天皇家）、禅僧（主に臨済宗）の３者による庭園を舞台とした文化交流が展開されていった。そこで本研究では、主に以下の観点について解明することを目的としている。１）室町前期における３者（武家・公家・禅僧）を対象とした庭園の文化利用の再考、そして、２）特に室町前期の足利将軍家にみる公禅との文化交流の展開における庭園利用の解明である。これまでは、主に３者それぞれによる庭園利用に関する研究であった。しかし、近年の研究成果では、この３者間における交流から、特に足利将軍家ゆかりの武家庭園が、その影響を受けて独自に発展して行ったとする考察がなされ始めている。そのため、日本中世の庭園史ならびに日本文化史においても、重要な橋渡しとなる基礎研究になると考えられる。今年度は、これまでの研究成果をふまえて、足利将軍家３代義満に注目して、さらに先行研究を深堀りすべく古文献を調査を実施した。調査は、応永４（１３９７）年から応永１５（１４０８）年までの約１０年間、特に北山第の庭園における３者によるの庭園利用や訪問についての基礎データを抽出した。調査をした古文献は、『教言卿記』『北山殿行幸記』『鹿苑院』等々である。詳細な古文献調査の結果、３者の関係性による庭園利用の変遷の一端が解明できると考えられた。

During the 10-year period from 1397 to 1408, the garden of Kitayama was used as a base for visits. Investigation of ancient documents,"Jiaoyan Qing Ji,""Beishan Temple Xingji,""Deer Garden Court," etc. The results of detailed investigation of ancient literature, the relationship between three aspects of garden utilization and one end of migration are explained.
