胃腸の障害が精神に影響を及ぼすことはあまり注目されていない。胃腸の状態の健全化は精神症状の改善や精神疾患の予防につながる可能性がある。本研究では、機能性胃腸症の病態をシネMRIによるいの運動と同時に測定する胃電図による胃の電気活動を解析することにより明らかにすることを目的としている。機能性胃腸症は器質的に異常のないにもかかわらず、胸焼けや腹部膨満感などの症状を訴えるもので、普通に生活している人の中にも10-17％が該当すると言われている。それらの病態は多くが不明で診断や治療方法は進展していない。これらの症状の病態把握は将来の治療に繋がり、それによって精神症状の悪化を予防できる可能性がある。２０２２年度は18-24歳の若年成人69名のデータを収集することができた。若年成人を対象としたのは、胃潰瘍や癌などの気質的な異常がある被験者が稀であると予測できるからである。それでも10名（14.5％）に機能性胃腸症と診断しうる被験者がアンケート調査により明らかになった。被験者は12時頃に通常どおりの昼食をとり、16時過ぎからシネMRIの撮像を行なった。その時同時に胃電図を測定した。食後３時間以上経過しているが、ほぼ全員に胃の内容物が確認された。MRIにより胃角を中心に頭側と尾側に１cmずつ離れた部位で胃の矢状断を1秒ごとに30分間撮像した。胃断面の面積は独自開発のソフトにより計測し、その時間変化を解析した。その結果多くの被験者データにおいてペースメーカー活動によると考えられる0.05Hz前後のサイン波状の胃の収縮活動を観測できた。また同時測定した胃電図においても0.05Hz前後のペースメーカーポテンシャルの伝導に伴う電位変化を観測した。これらのデータを独自に開発したソフトによって解析し、上部消化管症状の程度と関連のあるパラメータの候補を見出すことができた。
