本研究は、睡眠時ブラキシズムに対してスタビライゼーションアプライアンスおよび咬合面を被覆しないプラセボアプライアンスを適用するランダム化比較試験（RCT）を行うことにより、睡眠時ブラキシズムの筋活動成分（グラインディング、クレンチング）ごとに、オーラルアプライアンスによる減弱効果を判定することを主要目的とする。2022年度は、上記目標を達成するための基盤として、まず、被験者の選択およびリクルートするための方法の確立のため、事前の問診、臨床診察（研究参加の可否のためのスクリーニング、睡眠時ブラキシズムの臨床診断、現病歴、既往歴等の聴取、口腔内診察、支障度の把握、顎機能障害の検査など）について各項目を検討し、採取すべき項目を確定した。また、研究内容の説明、インフォームドコンセント、研究参加同意書への署名についても、説明文書を規格化した。次に、質の高いデータ収集を行うための手法について以下の検討を行った。過去の報告や国内外の研究者との意見交換で得られた情報を参考に、アプライアンス装着前後の口腔内診察および顎機能の検査（疼痛、開口距離、顎運動障害、咀嚼筋と顎関節の圧痛、顎関節雑音、生活支障度、口腔関連QoLなど）、質問紙等を用いた主観的項目の収集方法、アプライアンスの材料、形態、製作法など、および、睡眠時ブラキシズム測定装置の整備ならびに測定手順（携帯型筋電図測定装置による睡眠時ブラキシズムの記録、特に、２日間連続測定、右側咬筋の筋電図）の確立など、本研究で用いる研究手法を検討し、規格化した。このような手順を踏まえた上で、睡眠時ブラキシズムがあると臨床診断された研究参加者7名を選択し、定められた手順でデータ収集を行い、データの予備的な解析を行った。現時点で、得られたデータは、科学的に問題のない質を有すると考えられた。
