项目摘要

昨年度に引き続き美術館の観衆調査を続行することができましたが、今年度は予算の制約もあり、主としてこれまでの調査データの入力と分析の作業に意を注ざました。とくに昨年度おこなった豊田市美術館の調査については、美術館側からの要請もあり、たいへん詳しい分析をおこなって、館長様を始めとするスタッフの方々に、調査結果の説明をおこないました。こうした交流を通して実感されたのは、「自分たちの美術館に来ているのはどんな人々か?」について非常に強い関心がある点です。とりわけ公立美術館の場合、地方自治体や議会にたいする関係の上からも、美術館観衆についてのデータはたいへん重要なものであることが如実に感じられました。新たに調査をおこなったのは、ジョルジュ・ブラック回顧展を開催中であった三重県美術館です。ここでは従来から、他館に見られない充実した観衆調査を自主的に実施しています。ふつう、美術館によるアンケートは,館内に置かれた用紙に、訪れた人が自主的に書き込むという形のため、来館者の1割程度しか把握できません。しかしこの館では館内にアンケートの場所と人員を一定の期間配置し、協力をお願いするという形で、私の調査方法と共通点があります。このデータと私がおこなったデータを比較することで、訪問者の居住地や履歴、年齢、性別に関する特徴に類似が見られたことは、たいへん有益でした。これまでの調査全体の概要、分析に関する小論を、98年4月刊行の「現代美術館学」(並木他編、昭和堂)のなかに、「美術館との対話----社会学」として発表しました。当初、右も左もわからず開始した観衆調査ですが、調査に回答頂いた人数も5000を越え、また、美術館側からのさまざまな要望などに実際に肌で触れることができ、この調査の価値がますます実感されております。今後とも調査を継続いたしますので、各方面からのご協力をお願いいたします。
