本研究は、以下のようないくつかの部分から成り立っている。(1)マクロ収穫率が南北間所得格差に及ぼす影響に関する理論数理モデルの構築。具体的にはクルグマンの2国2財モデルを基礎とし、収穫逓減を仮定したレ-ニン的モデルに書き換える作業を行った。その結果、収穫逓減が現代のアジア太平洋地域のConvergenceをよく説明する仮定であることがわかった。(2)ドルベースデータによるアジア太平洋10カ国・地域のマクロ収穫率の計測。これには各国・地域の資本ストック・データの推計という大変な作業が伴ったが、それをやり遂げ計測した。結果、途上国-先進国のの順に収穫率が逓増-逓減と移動していることがわかった。唯一の例外は中国であった。(3)以上の計測を、各国通貨単位のデータによって再計算した結果、ほぼ同じ結果がもたらされた。
