本研究は、近世モンゴル人の日常生活に焦点を当て、身分とジェンダーとで創出される差異を主軸として当該社会の秩序を明らかにすることを目指すものである。該当年度はモンゴル国立中央公文書館にて、本研究課題の基本史料となる公文書－具体的には18－20世紀初頭に家族や各人のライフステージに関わる事案を調整する過程で作成された文書を集めた。帰国後、最初に注目したのは養子事案である。養子縁組事案を精査した結果、貴族と平民では手続きに違いがみられたほか、目的については大抵、相続、介護・労働、養育のいずれかないしは複数であったが、身分によってその割合に顕著な差がみられた。すなわち、貴族の場合には相続を目的とするものが殆どで、一方の平民では私生児や孤児の養育が貴族の場合よりも圧倒的に多かった。また、養子の中には女児がいたり、養親の中には女性がいたが、その場合には養育や介護・労働が目的であった。当該年度は、養子縁組という限られた事例を分析することしかできなかったが、この行為は「家族」を構築するためのものであり、当該社会において家族に期待された機能を考察するのに重要である。これについて、養子縁組の目的として相続、介護、養育があったことは示唆的といえよう。近世モンゴルのジェンダー規範については、申請書に述べた通り殆ど解明されておらず緊要な課題の一つであるが、その解明に必須ともいえる同時代の家族史研究もまた実証的な検討がなされていないのが現状である。このことは、本研究の直接的な先行研究がないことを意味しており、他地域・他時代との比較研究を通して相対化することが有用である。今後も個別の事例を分析しながら、当時のモンゴル人が日常生活を営む場としての家族に注目し、そこにおける身分やジェンダーによる差異を検討すると同時に、日本史やヨーロッパ史等、家族史研究の蓄積のある分野と活発に議論を進めることが求められる。
