项目摘要

言語学におけるモデリング実践について、生成文法の非文に着目して分析を行った。生成文法という言語学の科学的実践を分析することは、言語科学における対立を整理するに不可欠な要素である。言語の認知科学的探求の基盤は賛否あれ、生成文法が提供しているだろうからである。生成文法における非文の分析；非文とは、生成文法に特徴的な非文法的な記号列である。非文法的とはいえど、全くもってでたらめな記号列ではなく、文法性の探究における対照項としての役割があることを明らかにした。また非文の対象項としての役割を把握し損ねると生成文法に対する評価に混乱が齎されることを指摘した。非文を用いることは「文法性」を分類することである；自然界を眺めているだけでは自然法則は見つけることはできないように、文法的な文をいくら眺めていても文法性の規則を見出すことはできない。規則を切り出すために、GG研究者は非文を用いるが、非文がでたらめな記号列 (例えば「saw love in John what」)であっては、規則を見出すこと目的は果たされない。というのも、文法的な文が多くの基準を満たしているのであれば、翻って非文はそれだけ多くの仕方で非文法的でありえ、でたらめな記号列は数多の非文法性を包含してしまうからだ。非文とは極めて文法的に見える記号列であると先述したのは、それが文法性を成立させる諸規則を一つずつ分節化するものだからである。文法性を分節化するという非文の存在が、GGを博物学にとどまらない自然科学として成立させている。
