今年度は、第95回日本社会学会大会で「専門用語としての「自己責任」概念は，どのように用いられていたのか．」というタイトルで学会発表を行った。発表では、1970~1980年代の投資・金融業界で専門用語として用いられていた「自己責任」という概念の運用について分析した。「自己責任」という概念の運用の分析を行うため、とくに「自己責任」という概念を用いる中でどのような人々が「有責な人格」として責任帰属の対象とされていたのか、またどのような条件が揃えば判断を「有責な人格」としての自己に帰属できたのか、という点に着目した。そのような分析を通して、1970年代においては専門的な実践として投資が位置付けられていたために、投資のゲームに参加する（すなわち、「自己責任」の対象として「有責な人格」として扱われる）には、投資に関する十分な専門的な知識・経験、資産を有していることが前提とされていたことがわかった。他方、1980年代にあっては、専門的な実践であった投資が、投資顧問業の台頭によって、専門的な知識を持たないが余剰資金を有する人々にも広がり、人々のニーズに即して投資のゲーム側にあったチェック機能が失われ、悪徳な投資顧問業者を見極めるリテラシーやクーリングオフなどの投資者のセルフチェック機能が強調されるようになったことを明らかにした。そのように「有責な人格」が変容するなかで、その変容に伴って「判断」を自己に帰属する方法についても変化が見られた。以上の成果は、「自己責任」概念を批判的に検討し、どのように自己責任論を乗り越えるのかが主要な論点とされてきた先行研究にあっては見落とされてきた点を扱っている。すなわち、「自己責任」概念がそれなりの理由を持って日本社会に浸透し、批判に晒され続けても繰り返し復活する理由の探求に寄与するものである。
