项目摘要

1.まず、ラ-マ四世王については、シャムが野蛮国ではなく文明国であることを示すために人々の衣服着用をはじめ生活習慣に関心をもったが、抜本的な国家行政改革には関心がなかったことがわかった。また、各国の元首や国王に書簡を書き、国際社会の中でシャムの地位を高めることに関心をもっていたこともわかった。2.五世王もまた、タイが野蛮国ではなく文明国であることを示すため、当初は国家行政改革に大いに関心を示した。しかし、王権の地位が安泰となる治世後半期(1880年代後半)以降は、改革に対して穏健な立場を取った。たとえば、議会や政党の設置を「ヨーロッパの米をタイに植えるようなもの」と断じてこれを認めず、タイ人は国王を信じており君主制がもっとも適しているとして、王権の至上性を信じて疑わなかった。地方行政改革では、あくまで地方住民にシャム臣民として「庇護を与える」という温情主義的立場からこれに対応した。外交政策に関しては、イギリスに対しては協力的に臨み、イギリスの影響力が国内で増大しても、タイ政府の権力も同時に増大していればこれを歓迎し、イギリスの影響力増大に対して寛容だった。3.以上で得られた四世王・五世王の政治思想・国家思想に関する情報は、適宜日本語・タイ語でコンピューターに入力し、データ・ベースとした。データベースは一覧できるよう内容を示す短いタイトルと、発言の年月日を明記し、日付順に並べた。4.今後の研究展開としては、タイの近代国家形成を外交政策との関連で検討する予定である。本研究のような思想的アプローチではなく、条約・外交機関などの着目した制度的アプローチを採用する予定である。
