项目摘要

本研究の目的は、ニジェール国ニアメ市における消費と廃棄、リサイクルにまつわる実践から、サヘル地域の慢性的な貧困と食料不足への対処方法を明らかにすることである。さらには、保存食作りや喜捨の考察を通じてニジェールの人びとの価値観や農村の親族や都市の弱者を支える社会の仕組みを検討する。令和4年度は、これまでの研究成果をさまざまな機会で発表し、他分野の研究者やニジェールや廃棄物問題に関心を持つ多くの人と議論することができた。5月には日本アフリカ学会において女性たちの家事労働と生活排水について口頭発表した。6月には日本生活学会において、残飯を原料とする干し飯の製法と活用について発表した。近年、ニアメ市住人の食生活では、プラスチック袋、冷蔵庫や冷凍庫の利用が拡がっている。女性たちは日々、買い物や調理に必要な労力、調理エネルギー、時間などを効率よく配分する方法を考えて生活している。残飯については、価値観や保存技術だけでなく、広義の生活の知恵としての「食料のやりくり」という側面も明らかになってきた。都市の女性たちが手に入る様々な資源や技術をどう活用し、取り入れているかも調査の関心になってきている。6月～8月はニアメ市でフィールドワークをおこない、家計と食料のやりくり、主食のトウジンビエやコメの糠やとぎ汁などの副産物の利用、近所づきあいなどを参与観察した。昨年度に発表したニアメ市のゴミの組成とゴミを分別する女性たちと収集人たちの役割、資源の再利用などについて、環境・砂漠化対策省の廃棄物管理・生活環境課、JICAニジェール支所、環境NGOの職員の方々や現地の大学生たちと情報を共有し、話し合えたことが一番の成果である。日本では、他大学のゼミやゲスト講義などに招かれて、本研究について発表する機会を持つことができた。今後はこれまで蓄積したデータと文献資料を整理し、博士論文の執筆を進める。
