申請者の前研究(「物語理解過程への視覚的イメージの視点による影響に関する時系列的検討:平成7年度科学研究費補助金交付)において,物語によって喚起される視覚的イメージには個人差があり,個人内では比較的一貫性がある。また,視点を転換する際にはそれ以外よりも時間がかかり,心理的な操作がなされていることがわかった。本研究は,前研究のテキストのジャンルをかえ,より一般的な視覚的イメージの視点の影響を検討することである。予備調査として,説明文のシーン分割に関する妥当性を検討した。その結果,分割されたシーンには意味的なまとまりがあり,かつ,他シーンとは独立していることが認められた。次に,被験者として大学生を用い,1シーンの聴覚刺激を提示した後に,そのシーンに対応した視覚刺激を提示した。視覚刺激は,文章の視点がおかれている空間的位置から見た情景をコンピュータ・グラフィックス・ソフトで作成した。被験者の課題は,聴覚提示された説明文の1シーンによって喚起された自分の視覚的イメージと,提示された視覚刺激との異同を判断することである。その反応のパターンと反応時間(ミリ秒単位)を計測した。その結果,物語を材料とした実験と同様に反応パターンに個人差があり,視点の転換の際に,反応時間がそれ以外の場合よりも長くかかった。しかし,全般的に視覚的イメージの視点を操作するには,物語よりも説明文の方がより時間がかかった。テキストのジャンルによる視覚的イメージの喚起のしやすさが影響を与えていると思われる。このような談話の種類による影響について,様々な種類のテキストや会話といった幅広い材料を検討することにより,今後明らかになるであろう。
