项目摘要

古墳時代、南九州地域にみられる独特の墓制である地下式横穴墓について、畿内で生産されたと考えられる甲冑と、それに共伴する鉄鏃の分析をおこない、これをもとに編年的考察をおこなった。副葬された甲冑については、いずれも鋲留式甲冑を含んでおり、しかも短甲については、ほとんどが5世紀後葉に出現する少鋲式鋲留短甲(吉村編年)である。一方、甲冑に共伴する鉄鏃も、すべて長頸鏃を含んでおり、これらのことから甲冑を埋納する地下式横穴墓は平野部、内陸部にかかわらず、5世紀後葉〜末にその年代が限定できることを明らかにした。地下式横穴墓の主要な問題の中に、出現の場所と時期の問題があった。前者については、宮崎平野か同県内陸部かの2説があった。また後者については莫然と5世紀代とされてきた。出現場所について、平野部の初現例とされる妻入りで長方形の玄室をもつ地下式横穴墓には、甲冑類の副葬がよくみられ、先述の分析から、これらの築造年代が5世紀後葉〜末に限定できた。一方、宮崎県内陸部の地下式横穴墓では、とりわけ高原町、野尻町域(都域盆地の北)の地下式横穴墓に副葬された鉄鏃を分析すると、長頸鏃を含まず、共伴する圭頭式鉄鏃の様相をみても、平野部の初現例とされるものより、古い様相をもつものがあることがわかった。さらに畿内などでは5世紀前葉とされる鉄鏃が含まれることから、少なくとも5世紀前半代まで出現がさかのぼることがあきらかとなった。従って、地下式横穴墓は宮崎平野での発生の可能性が否定され、宮崎県内陸部でも、平野部と、都域盆地、加久藤盆地などをむすぶ中間的位置にある高原町、野尻町などの地域で、5世紀前半代に発生し、ひろがっていったものとの結論に達した。
