本研究は、西洋文化が東アジアに影響を拡大している背景において、「儀礼」「技術」「東西文化の交流」という三つのアプローチから、東アジアの伝統服の実態、そして、伝統服から洋服への変容の過程を明らかにする。今年度は、研究計画書に書かれた通り、「東アジアの伝統服における改良の様相」について研究を行った。東アジアにおいて伝統服はいかに洋装化していったのか、その試みの実態を解明した。具体的には、東アジアの婚礼衣裳を中心に、主に花嫁衣裳における変化と洋風化について考察した。まず、中国において女性の婚礼衣裳の一部として、ベールはどのように受容していたのかを明らかにするために、近代中国で刊行された女性雑誌の資料を調査した。研究の結果、1910から1930年代にかけて、文明結婚と集団結婚の新しい結婚形式の誕生と変化に伴い、花嫁衣裳において服装の変化とベールの受容の過程が明確になったことがわかった。そして、「色の変化」と「花嫁イメージの変遷」という二つの視点から、日本の婚礼衣裳における洋風化を考察した。具体的には、20世紀前後における関連の文献資料や新聞・雑誌資料を用い、婚礼衣裳の色を中心に、とりわけ白と黒の関連性や変化の過程について考察した。また、婚礼陳列会と百貨店関連の資料、そしてビジュアル資料を収集し、近代的な花嫁のイメージの変化と変遷について考察した。こうして、東アジアの伝統服における変化とその経緯をある程度明らかにした。東アジア人の晴れ着を改良する過程とその結果を比較することにより、日中間の大きな差異が出現した背景や原因を解明した。
