The ultimate aim of this study was to determine how swimmers could best control their breathing while swimming. Well-trained swimmers exhale first from their noses earlier than from their mouths while swimming even though their faces were still under the water. It is an important thing to exhale from the nose to avoid long time breath holding. For the first step we aimed to measure the nasal pressure while exhaling under water. The authors tried to use two pressure transducers to measure the nasal pressure under the water. Subjects of the study were healthy university students who had experienced long distance swimming. Our specific object was to measure the nasal pressure of the subject underwater exhalations. We used two pressure transducers to compare each subject's nasal pressure with the water pressure at various depths. In every case we found the nasal pressure to be slightly higher than the corresponding water pressure.
