项目摘要

外国人特別研究員が受け入れる教員との協働により、計画通りに研究を進めている。主な仕事は以下の２つである。まずは、大江文学と英詩の関連性についての認識を深めた。周知の如く、大江氏は英詩の愛読者であり、小説を創作する際に、必ずといって良いほど英詩を取り入れつつ、小説の背景に投影したり、イメージを豊富にしたり、小説の地平線を拡大させたりしてきた。大江氏は幾度も英詩のタイトルを日本語に翻訳し、自分の小説のタイトルまでにも援用したほど、英詩が大江文学を支えた一貫した主軸のような存在だと認識できた。目下アイルランドの偉い詩人であるイエーツから大江氏が受けた影響についての論文を執筆中である。また、実地調査を通して大江氏の生家の実際の姿が分かるようになってきた。2023年3月12日から14日まで、大江健三郎氏の生家である愛媛県を訪問した。実在する大江氏の故郷と大江文学における故郷のイメージがどれほど一致しているか、後者の場合はどれほど架空の物語であるかを確認した上で、大江文学を解読するためのさらなる手掛かりを見つけようとするのが、実地調査の主な目的である。その結果、両者は大江氏の生家の周辺の地理を特徴づける川、村、森と谷間などの相対位置から見ると、基本的には一致していると判断される。言い換えれば、後者は前者のスケッチであり、大江氏が小説の筋立てを成立させるには若干の調整を加えたものである。研究者が大江文学の故郷をめぐって現実と架空の境界線がどこにあるのを、研究テーマの中心に見据えると、大江文学の本質にもっと近づいた解読ができるだろうと期待される。なお、今回の現地調査がきっかけでＮＨＫ愛媛からの追跡取材を受けたが、そのインタビューの中で大江氏が提唱された平和主義の世界的意義を、受け入れる教員が訴えた番組が4月28日に放映され、研究の社会的還元の１つとみなされる。
