1. Liquid crystal (LC) cells with various thicknesses of LC layers and dye concentrations are prepared by dissolving some fluorescent dyes into mixtures of cholesteric and nematic LCs. Then, fluorescent intensities stimulated by ultraviolet (UV) light are measured and characteristics in complex properties of these cells are studied.2. LC fluorescent devices of which fluorescent layers are formed on the inside surface of the substrates are prepared, and their dependences of fluorescent properties and fluorescent spectra on the applied voltage are measured.3. External voltage dependences of fluorescent intensities and fluorescent spectra in both of the LC cells doped with fluorescent dyes and LC fluorescent devices are measured under the stimulation by the blue or UV-LED and the 1W-fluorescent lamp. Then, light shuttering effects and some properties of electrically controlled fluorescent intensities are studied.4. Relations between fluorescent intensities and fluorescent spectra and applying voltages to the LC cells are measured by composing the UV-LED and UV-fluorescent lamp to the LC cells doped with the fluorescent dyes. Then, fluorescent devices of which fluorescent color can be changed from blue to red or to green are prepared and studied as multi-color fluorescent LC display devices. In addition, their fluorescent yields are improved.5. Fluorescent display devices having colorful properties are composed by stacking several LC cells doped with different fluorescent dyes. Then, their fluorescent properties are measured and relations between applied voltages and fluorescent properties on GTE color coordinates are discussed. Optimum conditions for color changes are obtained, and fluorescent LC cells with excellent properties can be composed.6. The results are examined and the research work is summarized.
