A Prosopographical Study of the Ancient Persian Empire.

The present writer has examined the kingship, administration, legislation, finance, and military system of the Ancient Persian Empire and noticed a significant role of personal connections among the ruling class. So he selected a prosopographical study as an effective means for further research.This project started to gather and to arrange prosopographical data, but the results are regretfully omitted from the final report because of the recent publication of J.M.Balcer, A Prosopographical Study of the Ancient Persians Royal and Noble, c.500-450 B.C., 1993, which includes a similar data compilation. Then, the investigator dealt with some themes related to prosopographical study. The report consists of three papers : (1) "Genealogy of the early Achaemenids" , in which three genealogical tables (in Cyrus'Cylindar Seal, the Bistun Inscription of DArius the Great, and Herodotus) are reconsidered ; (2) "Rebels in the Ancient Persian Empire, 550-405 B.C" , classified by reign from Cyrus II to Darius II ; and "A Japanese translation of the Bistun Inscription of Darius the Great", an important source to the prosopographical study of the ancient Persia. These are intended for understanding of characterisics on the Persian imperial rule.The prosopographical study of the ancient Persian empire is to be made on more other subjects. The present results will make a contribution to future research.
