本研究は、科研費基盤研究（B）「市場経済形成期における奉公人の系譜」（2010-2012）および「市場経済形成期における地域金融組織の日英対比研究」（2018-2022）の研究成果を踏まえ、近世期日本と英国の地域的労働力市場の重層的社会構造に焦点をあてた実証データ分析により、従来の人口史や労働力市場研究の定式化された労働力市場論を再検討し、市場経済形成期に固有の地域的労働力市場論を構築し、世代間を貫く系譜的遷移と地理的展開とを統合する新たな労働力市場史を開拓することを目的とする。そのため、グローバルな対比を前提として既存のデータベース型の研究プロジェクトの成果を総覧し、先行研究の業績をリサイクルするところから本プロジェクトを開始した。具体的には調査対象地域である日本の長野県上田市上塩尻およびイギリスのケンブリッジ州ウィリンガム教区を対比した実証研究として公刊済みの拙著『村の相伝・日英対比研究編;社会的DNAの検出』（刀水書房、2021年）および長谷部・髙橋・山内編著『近世日本における市場経済化と共同性;近世上田藩上塩尻村の総合研究Ⅱ』（刀水書房、2022年）をベースとして、海外共同研究者として参画するケンブリッジ大学歴史学部クレイグ・マルドルー教授を2020年度（実施2022年度9月）学術振興会外国人研究者招へい（短期）事業で迎え、滞在中に国際公開シンポジウム・セミナー（2022年9月24日愛媛大学）を開催した。その議論は地域労働力市場とも密接に関連し、そこでの史料的見通しをもとに高橋とマルドルーの共同論稿を日本語および英語でそれぞれ公刊（参照業績）している。さらに、日英各々の地域文書館またはアーカイヴスのデジタル目録および所蔵二次文献の検索および抽出は相当程度に広範にできることを確認しており、次年度に続ける。
