本研究の目的は、結婚に関する個人の期待とその実現値にどの程度乖離があるかの探究である。結婚に関する個人の期待とその実現値を研究するには、それらが調査項目として含まれる長期的なパネルデータの構築が必要である。本研究では、そのようなパネルデータ構築の第一歩として、パネル調査をおこなう。毎年の調査では、現在の婚姻状態と（未婚者は）将来自身が結婚する確率（期待）を尋ねる。将来時点として、1年後・2年後・3年後・5年後・7年後・10年後についてそれぞれ期待を尋ねる。例えば、「1年後に結婚する確率」の質問では、1年後に結婚する確率を0%から100%の間で回答する（10%刻み）。期待と実現値については、結婚と関係が深い子どもの有無と就業状態についても同様に尋ねる。心理学や社会学、あるいは一般の人々においても結婚に関する「期待」と実現値に乖離があることは認識されているが、その定量化はおこなわれていない。経済学の立場から「期待」の数値化をおこなうことで実現できる明確化された議論により、他分野へのインパクトを与えることができる。初年度である2022年度は、パネル調査の準備をおこなった。具体的には、アンケート調査に関する情報収集をおこない、アンケート調査の設計方法・依頼方法などを理解した。まだ、最近のアンケート調査には必須である、研究の事前登録制度について理解した。現在は、調査票の設計をおこない、研究倫理審査の申請の準備をしている段階である。初回の調査は2023年10月に実施する予定である。
