単年度毎の更新ではあったが、3年間継続したプロジェクトとして、「家族関係の構造の国際比較に関する基礎的研究」を実施した。この間の成果は、以下の点にまとめられる。1) 全国サンプルによる総合的な家族調査データの公開が進んでいる米国のNSFH調査データを活用することで、個票データの分析によるナショナルレベルでの家族の国際比較の実現への準備をし、本年度を含め、3冊の論文集として報告書にまとめ、また学会でも発表した。2) 最終年度は、日本側でのデータを「家庭動向調査」(厚生省人口問題研究所、1993)の目的外使用申請することにより、日米比較に着手した。これは許可までに時間がかかったため、若干遅れて報告書にまとめる予定である。3) 本研究は、研究者集団(学会)が自ら全国規模の家族総合調査を実施して、そのデータを共同利用のために公開するという大きな目標へ向けての基礎作業として位置づけられたものである。3年間を通して、調査項目の収集・検討や、予備的調査と結果の共同分析などの実施によって寄与できた。その成果も「家族調査項目インベントリィ」や共同分析報告書として公表した。
