Indoor farming can provide year-round, local, pesticide-free foodstuffs. One approach to maximising indoor crop yield is to grow crops in constant light to increase photosynthesis. This shortens time to harvest, reduces inputs and increases profitability for producers. However, because plants evolved outdoors in day and night cycles, many crops perform poorly without a substantial dark break at night. We are combining the expertise of Cambridge University in the biological rhythms of plants, with Vertical Future, the UKs leading vertical farm research company, to develop practices and monitoring equipment that aims to increase the productivity and quality of indoor-grown salad crops.
