本年度は、日英語で観察される位置変化・状態変化表現における語彙的意味と談話の役割について、研究計画に従い、次の４点を中心に研究を行った。（１）英語における場所前置詞句の着点解釈（例：John walked in the room.('in the room' = Goal) の記述研究の総括、及び当該現象が示す理論的含意の考察（２）日本語における弾道移動動詞と着点を表すニ格名詞句の例外的共起（例：??内田は本田にボールを蹴った。 vs. 内田が本田に蹴ったボールは…。）に関する記述研究、及び当該現象が示す理論的含意の考察（３）英語の「結果」と「様態」の意味構成素における構造的分析 (nanosyntactic analysis)（４）日英語における語彙的意味と解釈強制の方略の関係（１）と（２）により、(i) 日英語において場所句表現が着点として解釈強制を受ける場合、意味論的（語彙概念的）レベルでは共通の条件を満たす必要があること、(ii) 談話の果たす役割が両言語で大きく異なることが明らかとなった。これは、計画目標 [A]「語彙意味と談話の対応関係を示す表現の検証」ならびに [B]「一般的妥当性の検証と共通・相違点の考察」の成果となる。そして、（３）に基づく一般的な位置変化・状態変化表現の統語的分析から、(ii) は構造分析では明らかにされてこなかった、個別言語間の有意義な相違点であることが明らかとなった。また、（４）では、当該個別言語間の解釈強制における条件の相違点を「過程重視言語（cf. 池上 (1981) における「なる型の言語」）」と「結果重視言語（cf. 池上 (1981) における「する型の言語」）」に還元されることを論じている。これは [C]「抽出された一般化に対する原理立てられた説明」に対する成果である。
