英文摘要
The new millennium has witnessed a revolution in the waste management sector, which has moved away from 90% landfill, resulting in major carbon emissions problems. Millions of tonnes of residual waste now go into recycling and incineration (burnt) alternatives. While this is undoubtedly a good-news story, the industry reports a large capacity gap, needing more energy from waste facilities, (not without their own issues, for example burning plastic waste creates almost as much emissions as burning coal). For the UK to hit the net zero targets set by the Paris climate change agreement, multiple new approaches are required to add new capacity including using new carbon removal technology and releasing the stored energy in waste in an environmentally positive way, reducing the need for new fossil fuels.Standard Gas use a patented advanced thermal process to treat non-recyclable household, commercial and industrial waste. Our SG technology offers clean power, biogas, green hydrogen generation, carbon removal char and carbon removed from the atmosphere. This project relates to the carbon negative char material which is an output from our process. The accepted approach around the world is to bury it or use it as a soil conditioner. This is certainly one option, however in this project we will conduct evaluation of the char produced from a variety of feedstock materials to ascertain each sample's characteristics. We will evaluate different uses for the char, conducting market research and business case evaluation for applications where we blend the chars with asphalt, and concrete. Carbon capture analysis will be carried out to confirm the environmental benefits from these approaches. We have strong support from industry partners who will be involved in evaluations in the project. This research could dramatically strengthen the economics of our exciting technology, and so accelerate adoption.
