In 2020 Avocet Battery Materials (ABM) embarked on a mission to set-up Europe's first pilot plant facility and R&D Centre of Excellence for the manufacture of Li-ion pouch-cell tabs. ABM is the sister company of Avocet Steel Strip Ltd, a company established over 25 years ago and already supported by Project ULTRA, part of the APC16 round of funding. The project to date has moved from concept through planning and execution and is now business ready to manufacture tabs and push the boundaries of innovation on tab format.As part of Project CHARGE ABM will design and build a new production line to improve manufacturing efficiencies and accelerate our progress on the battery materials roadmap by 24 months. The project will help establish a localised supply-chain of critical battery components in the UK and help the industry flourish.The outcome of Project CHARGE will take ABM from a pilot line facility to an enterprise with demonstrable rapid scale-up capabilities allowing ABM to offer lower costs to customers and provide a reliable high volume and localised source of battery components for the UK and wider European Li-ion battery industry.
