In the maritime industry today, optimizing vessel performance by reducing fuel consumption, emissions and operating costs is of paramount importance for both environmental and operational reasons. Until recently, R&D in the industry has focused primarily on advanced IT solutions for reducing emissions, however these technologies have often failed to deliver expected reductions in costs or emissions.Unlocking true operational savings and emissions reductions requires better interfaces between onboard technology and crew to enable better decision making onboard and on shore. It is decisions by captains and shore staff in terms of vessel speed, route planning, stand-by time and other factors that are most critical for reducing emissions, fuel usage, and operational costs.Canada-based Helm Operations Software Inc. and UK-based Reygar Ltd. will develop an integrated hardware and software solution that will natively integrate live vessel machinery data with the vessel's logbook and operational software, as well as to automate maintenance tasks, and enable more effective operational management. This system will leverage bi-directional data transfer between complementary Reygar and Helm systems, both on-vessel and in the cloud, to empower better decision making to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency
