Project Summary/Abstract
This core performs two functions critical to the operation of a mature synchrotron User Facility. First, our
Training component ensures Users are capable of working independently, productively, and safely. User
training begins with web-based training before Users come on site to work. The NCXT website includes
documents and instructional manuals and videos. All on-site Users must also complete mandatory institutional
(ALS/LBNL) safety training courses, many of which can be completed online. Once they arrive on site, Users
receive NCXT-specific, 'hands-on' training from an experienced staff member. The NCXT training program is
split into task-specific modules, with Users receiving modules according to their experimental plan's scope.
Second, our Outreach component is designed to make the scientific community aware of the capabilities,
technologies, and research opportunities available at the NCXT. We do this by staff actively participating in
workshops and meetings. We also make the NCXT technologies known to a broader audience by regularly
publishing technical and facility updates in specialist and general journals. Our outreach work is also aimed at
always attracting new Users. We do this by hosting workshops and making direct contact with investigators
whose research may benefit from soft x-ray tomographic imaging.
(ALS/LBNL)
