The CENSUS project is a unique software development proposal designed to tackle one of the hardest challenges associated with achieving net zero for UK industry, the monitoring and reduction of emissions associated with companies' product and service offerings. Typically, over 80% of a company's carbon emissions emanate from their activities from their up and downstream value chains. This is typically the purchasing and movement of goods that go into their own business operations. The biggest challenge for this is monitoring all these different activities so they can take steps to reduce the emissions associated. This is due to a lack of primary data from suppliers and customers in the businesses value chain relating to their emissions generating activities especially in relation to bespoke product lines.Through CENSUS, Riskoa will develop and build its conceptual "Emvide" software platform to tackle the specific issue of developing emissions information from product lines that run across multiple organisations. The "Emvide" software, meaning "**em**issions viewing/seeing" (**vide** in Latin), will focus on generating product/service emissions factors across multiple parties, by building an online SaaS platform to allow multiple supply chain partners to upload their manufacturing/service route/s with associated emissions calculated for these steps of their operations. The primary innovation in the project is associated with the software product itself and what it enables. The innovation is threefold; firstly, the focus on product value chain emissions reporting which requires bringing together multiple parties and their associated operational steps. Most carbon calculators focus on reporting general corporate emissions, Emvide tackles the harder part of reporting looking at bespoke product emissions profile. Secondly, the use of a SaaS application with advanced APIs and user management allows multiple parties of different sizes to engage on one platform bringing together all parts of the value chain. And finally, the pricing offering that will be available depending on organisation size and complexity again further allows for integration over multiple parties overcoming the main barrier for accurate product emissions reporting. This novel product will be developed over a short project implementation of 5 months involving three work packages. This will include a software design phase, product build and finally a product evaluation phase. The team have already secured an industry end user with this application who have a specific need for a product emissions profile, providing an ideal test case and launch customer for the completed product.
