UK property developers create 1,000s of Build-to-Rent (BTR) flats each year and provide them fully furnished. Approximately every 5 years, the flats are refurbished, the furniture is disposed of and replaced. A similar situation occurs across the hospitality sector (hotels, bars and restaurants), creating together around 9,000 tonnes of waste in the UK annually, much of which is landfilled or incinerated.To replace the wasteful discarding and replacing of furniture during refurbishment, H Furniture proposes applying human and planet centric design approaches to develop a system of furniture (dining chair and table) which can be easily refurbished/remanufactured over time by replacing components using simple tools, supporting UN's Responsible Consumption and Production SDG.
