Alcohol Epidemiologic Data System (AEDS)

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a component of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the lead agency in this country for research on alcohol misuse, alcohol use disorder, and associated consequences. The Alcohol Epidemiological Data System (AEDS) is a contract-funded effort to provide assistance to NIAAA in the conduct of its research and research dissemination program. The focus of the AEDS contract is secondary data analysis of survey and other data for use in scientific reports. Scientific areas of interests may include and are not limited to: alcohol-related morbidity and mortality; alcohol-related unintentional and intentional injuries; alcohol screening and brief interventions; alcohol-related health disparities; and, interactions between alcohol and lifestyle risk factors including diet, exercise, and smoking. The Contract supports the preparation of surveillance reports on national trends in per capita alcohol consumption, national trends in liver cirrhosis, and national trends in youth drinking.
