ABSTRACT ---ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPLEMENT Traumatic injuries are a leading cause of death and disability, and underrepresented minorities are disproportionately affected. The parent NICHD R25 award supports the conduct of an 8 week in person undergraduate research intensive summer experience in pediatric injury and violence prevention. The program has been very successful (over 450 applications for 15 positions in 2018, 2019 and 2020). During the COVID- 19 pandemic, we urgently adapted our curriculum to a new on-line format for summer 2020 program to avoid canceling the educational experience. This on-line program needs refinement for Summer 2021 which will also be on-line. Through this adaptation, we learned that there is a large unmet demand and interest in a year round online curriculum in pediatric injury and violence prevention. In other words, a large number of qualified students applied for summer 2020 but could not be accepted due to lack of funding. In reponse to PA 20-272: We are requesting this administrative supplement to: 1) Refine and optimize the existing on-line curriculum for Summer 2021 and 2) Develop a more abridged introductory 4 week online undergraduate curriculum called the On Line Pediatric Injury Prevention Student Internship Training program (“INSIGHT On-Line”) which will can, in the future, be delivered to students across the nation during the school year. INSIGHT-On Line is aligned with the parent proposal because it will increase the pipeline and reach of training in pediatric injury and violence prevention to diverse populations.
