英文摘要
Global food systems need to produce 50% more food to sustain growing populations over the next 40 years, whilst substantially reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (Social Market Foundation,2020). 14% of total emissions are attributable to animal farming. Without changes throughout the value chain, these emissions are likely to increase by 30-40% by 2050(IPCC,2020).Cultivated meat (CM) can be a safe and sustainable alternative to animal farming. Pork is the most widely consumed meat(UN-FAO,2020). Cultivated pork is estimated to have -75% GHG emissions and -72% land requirements(Good Food Institute,2021). While production costs are currently 100-10,000x higher than for animal-farmed products, with the right scale-up technologies, prices could reach a competitive point before 2030\. Progress in the industry has been slow, but in the last decade, CM has gone from its 1st burger costing \>$250,000 in 2013 to cultivated chicken being approved in the USA and sold in Singapore by 2023\.Animal Alternative Technologies(AAT) is a B2B company located at the University of Cambridge. We are creating a scalable, end-to-end system for CM production, including specialist bioprocesses, enabling technologies, and software. Our mission is to democratise access to sustainable food and tackle the world's biggest sustainability and food security challenges. Our collaboration with Cellivate during this R&D project aims to develop the world's 1st end-to-end, cost-efficient cultivated pork production system that enables meat producers to commercially manufacture at large scales their own tailored, cultivated pork products, which are nutritious, delicious for general consumption, with lower environmental impact, higher quality, stronger local supply chains, and ethical sources. We will do this by optimizing and combining our non-GMO cell lines with Cellivate's proprietary 10x cheaper animal-component-free media and customized edible scaffolds in our novel, scalable purpose-built bioreactors, and then scaling up.To date, we have raised \>£3 million from VCs and strategic investors, and have developed several patents/pioneering technologies, including cell lines and bioelectronic sensors. Our work has received multiple awards, and AAT has participated in 4 accelerators. We have been featured in TechCrunch, Food Navigator, The Spoon, etc., and are focused on food security and sustainability. Cellivate has developed patented nanotech technologies that enable cells to grow better and faster. Their portfolio includes edible scaffolds, biomaterials and serum-free media, which accelerate CM development. Cellivate was in the Good Food Institute's "2020 Asia Alt 100" list. It has received awards/recognition from Mitsui Chemicals, ASPIRE Labs and has been featured in multiple publications and podcasts.
