ADMIRED is an ambitious healthcare project seeking to transform the management of Bipolar Disorder (BD) by harnessing digital technologies, AI-driven analytics, and proactive interventions. The traditional healthcare approach for BD, based on symptom-triggered responses, often leads to delayed treatment, jeopardizing patients' health and impacting their support network. ADMIRED's main objective is to develop an integrated biomedical solution that revolutionizes BD management. The ADMIRED solution comprises several components: an Electronic Health Data Acquisition System (EHDAS) for patients, a context-aware mobile application for continuous BD management, individualized AI-driven services to predict patient relapses in advance, a mobile app to warn authorized caregivers about predicted relapses, protocols to guide end-user behaviours, web-based software for medical decision-making, an embedded system for secure edge processing of AI services, and an interoperability package for integration with external systems.Through continuous monitoring of psychological and physiological parameters, ADMIRED will use AI-driven predictive analytics to anticipate individual patient relapses. When relapse is predicted, timely warnings will be sent to patients, caregivers, and clinicians, enabling immediate actions to prevent relapses and subsequent hospitalizations. This will enhance the quality of life for patients and families while reducing direct and indirect costs associated with the disease. The project consortium consists of technical, research, medical, social science, and NGO entities, bringing together the necessary multidisciplinary expertise for successful implementation. A modular development strategy will be followed, with a lab pilot in the initial phase and a final prototype demonstrated in two distinct populations/countries by the project's conclusion.ADMIRED aims to reach TRL 9 status, positioning it as a Class IIa medical device under the EU MDR 2017/745 definition, offering it as part of a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solution. With the growing demand for digital telemedicine solutions, the project aligns well with the current market scope, while its focus on edge processing further enhances its relevance. The increasing awareness of mental health and the rising prevalence of BD contribute to a promising market growth opportunity, which ADMIRED aims to capitalize on by becoming a key player in the BD niche market. In conclusion, ADMIRED seeks to revolutionize BD management by embracing digital technologies, AI analytics, and proactive interventions, marking a shift from reactive to future value-based P4 (Predictive, Preventive, Personalized, and Participatory) medicine. By addressing the challenges of BD with an innovative and comprehensive approach, ADMIRED has the potential to significantly improve the lives of millions of individuals worldwide affected by this mental illness.
