The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) is seeing increased demand for IP rights applications and are struggling to keep up with this demand. The time it takes for an IP right to be granted impacts innovation within the UK as intellectual property needs to be protected. As such we are looking at how artificial intelligence can be used to augment the application and examination process of IP Rights (primarily Trade Marks and Patents) to reduce the number of Rights that are submitted and not approved and allow examiners to focus more on the exceptional applications. As part of this we are creating a Proof of Concept to allow applicants to understand the likelihood of their Right being accepted prior to applying by using AI to compare their Right to other registered Rights.
