Wickman Coventry Ltd are looking to build a prototype Multispindle Lathe that will be able to produce different parts from the same bar stock. This has a distinct advantage over current machines that have long set up times (4-16 hours) and are only suitable for high volume parts. The prototype machine will be able to produce low volume, higher value parts with minimal set up and tool time required. It will be the most advanced machine of its type produced in the UK.The focus of the feasibility study will be configuring an "off the shelf" controller which will need to be developed for the more complex operation of the prototype. It will also need to be programmed for ease of use as this unique prototype is expected to find applications in the Medical, Aerospace, Petro Chemical sectors with operators of varying degrees of experience.
