In acute medical situations, where speed of diagnosis is critical, effective near-patient or Pointof-Care (PoC) testing can play a crucial role. The ability to conduct a rapid test in an emergency or critical care setting, where continuous monitoring is required, will significantly accelerate the triage, diagnosis, treatment and disposition of patients. PoC testing can effectively reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and the burden placed on centralisedlaboratories. However, many of the PoC technologies available lack the required sensitivity and accuracy to provide fully quantitative measurements; a pre-requisite now demanded by healthcare professionals of future PoC devices. Bio-Alternative Medical Devices (Bio-AMD) has identified this gap in the market and has devised a PoC platform that will deliver the levelof sensitivity required for significantly more accurate measurements with the precision of gold standard laboratories.
