Our modern densely populated cities have created an Achilles heel for Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) services where natural or man-made disasters often result in high casualties. The 2005 London bombings have exposed the inadequacy of current PPDR communication systems for modern response operations. Additionally, PPDR organisations presently pay a tariff each time current communication systems, based on expensive infrastructure, are used. Current systems are therefore costly to setup, operate and maintain. Our solution will enable a unique innovative secured wireless system for ubiquitous PPDR communications. The system will operate congruently with preferred interfaces as desired by PPDR organisations and provide advanced capabilities based on responders’ requirements. Our ubiquitous solution will reduce the cost for emergency operations whilst providing a more effective up-to-date communication system. Other benefits of our system are its ease of deployment and interoperability. The solution is based on a pioneering modular and flexible technology that can be readily adapted to integrate with legacy, current and emerging ICT systems
