We Are Colony is a new video-on-demand (VOD) distribution platform in beta launch, with aunique focus on early and exclusive access to independent film content. Positioning itself as aplatform to explore films months or years before general release, We Are Colony aims tobecome the place to launch films earlier and build a following. The platform will create a newwindow of distribution, where non-traditional content release precedes other windows in orderto establish market demand. For independent UK film makers, We Are Colony will act as amuch needed disintermediary to grow, sustain and communicate directly with audiences,across a range of devices and in real-time. Uniquely, it will allow content owners to monetizeevery stage of production. We Are Colony will strengthen the UK production sectors by:creating a new context for content to be consumed; integrating production and distributionaudience gathering; promoting effective management of digital assets and creating newrevenues from this under-exploited content; promoting more sustainable marketing efforts;facilitating greater international release and audience engagement; and in reinforcing the UK'sposition as a centre for digital distribution commercial and technical innovation.This Proof of Prototype application seeks to extend the potential value and scalability of theWe Are Colony platform - originally prototyped by a TSB Smart Award in 2013 - by scoping,prototyping and market testing a "Producer's Content Management System" (pCMS). Thiswill allow content owners to self-publish and self-manage content on the platform, themechanism by which We Are Colony can reach scale and significant international markettraction, while reducing cost and risk for filmmakers. This application seeks to prototype anend-to-end solution encompassing creation, editing, upload, encoding, editorial, tagging, SEO,publishing, user CRM, analytics and monetisation of film content, deployable across variousdevices.
