A UK Space Biomedicine Strategy for the Benefit of the UKThe UK Space Biomedicine Consortium consists of 27 establishments from a number of academic organisations and industrial companies from across the UK. The Consortium is in the process of identifying, and will propose, ratify and subsequently pursue a strategy centred upon augmented communication, coordination and collaboration between academic and industrial, and where appropriate, Governmental, organisations. The strategy aims to formally establish and develop space biomedicine as a field within the UK. It will focus the resources of the UK Space Biomedicine Consortium members (and any future members) to enable the following aims to be achieved. AIMSi. Benefit terrestrial healthcare. ii. Enhance UK innovation and economic growth. iii. Prepare the UK to effectively participate in future human spaceflight activities. iv. Benefit / serve the interests of UKSBC members.v. Contribute to, and benefit from, international collaboration.Vision The members of the UK Space Biomedicine Consortium will embark upon a course of action that shall result in the official recognition of the domain of space biomedicine within the UK. The space biomedicine activities coordinated by the Consortium and undertaken across the nation will diminish the negative impact of an ageing population, improve terrestrial healthcare provision and prepare the country for the new space era that approaches (one based upon commercial human spaceflight). The UK Space Biomedicine Consortium intends to establish itself as an Institute with members drawn from academia and industry, who shall develop 4 R&D and commercial product programmes according to the following themes;1. Ageing, Lifestyle & Nutrition2. Telemedicine / e-Health / Biotechnology 3. Morbidity in relation to space travel. 4. Human Factors and Performance.
