Temperature is a key vital sign, used by medical staff in diagnosing and monitoring a patient's state of health. TriMedika has successfully developed and commercialised "TriTemp", a handheld non-contact infrared clinical (hospital)-grade thermometer that measures temperature rapidly, accurately and non-invasively.However, it is still normal practice in most hospitals for nurses to take a patient's temperature using a tympanic (ear) thermometer, which not only exposes the patient to possible infection (as it involves patient contact), but also requires single-use plastic sheaths, significantly adding to NHS costs and which are poor for the environment. The nurse then transcribes this reading (**manually**) onto a chart and/or keyboard entry onto a vital signs monitoring unit which is:1.wasteful of nurses' time;2.open to transcription errors in the transfer of data;3.open to human error (forgetting to record the data);4.increasing infection risk due to the handling of manual paper-based records and writing devices;5.time critical for patient care as up-to-date vital signs data is not visible immediately to clinicians, thereby increasing risk for patients (in particular, vulnerable groups such as ICU, geriatric and paediatric patients).TriMedika aims to address these issues by developing the first-ever clinically approved wireless non-contact **connected** thermometer which will enable the efficient and safe collection of patient and operator data and **deliver this information automatically and securely onto the hospital's electronic medical records ("EMR")**.Without timely documentation of vital signs, clinical decisions may trigger too late to impact patient outcomes. Hence there's a growing need to improve efficiencies in obtaining and documenting vital signs data to ensure patient safety, enhance patients' experience, and improve clinician workflows.
