Fertility, Longevity, and Justice

My project aims to identify what we owe to parents, including mothers as well as fathers, and to the elderly when designing social and economic institutions. Its also asks whether states should ever be held responsible for the size of their populations, and if so what implications doing so has for debates about how to share the costs involved in cooperating to control climate change. To answer these questions, the project will develop a resource egalitarain conception of distributive justice, and defend it from certain influential criticisms as well as a leading rival, the capability approach to equality.
