We will develop an accessible, affordable and performant open-source platform for the generation of fully textured and coloured 3D models of arthropods and small objects. This platform, scAnt, builds on a prototype developed during work on ERC Stg MechAnt. We will reduce costs, improve performance and increase accessibility of this prototype to open up the capabilities of scAnt to a broad audience outside its current academic niche. We will also develop a scAnt kit, purchasable at cost of manufacture, which will be as close to "plug-and-play" as possible, to further lower the technology entry barrier. scAnt will be accessible to professionals and amateurs alike at minimum cost, so forming the basis for a global network which works towards an accessible digital documentation of arthropod diversity in 3D and full colour. scAnt will thus achieve for colour and texture what uCT scans have done for internal anatomy, revolutionise arthropod research, conservation, pest management, education, outreach, and so contribute to an increased public appreciation of arthropods.
