英文摘要
Over the last few years funding from the STFC has enabled Maggie to reach a large number of people through direct contact and through television and radio outlets. With further funding the aim of the 'Science for All' program is to reach audiences not often addressed through science communication. This will continue by utilising links that have already already established with BBC Breakfast and other news programs but also exploite new opportunities arising with more main stream programing such as 'Bang goes the Theory' which is aimed at a younger and less format audience. Also with the recentsucess of the Paradox television series (a drama shown on BBC1 featuring a space scientist), the 'Science for All' program of work will enable further exploitation of such opportunities. In summary the main areas of work can be broken down into the following areas. 1. Maggie will continue to attend meetings and group activities as a role model, to talk about her work and her inspirations as a space scientist. With the further fellowship funding Maggie will be able to respond to even more of these requests which she receives regularly. 2. Maggie has been identified as one of the preferred scientific experts for BBC Breakfast and BBC News, with some recent interest from ITN and Euronews she would use some of the time available to continue this work. Established links with childrens programs such as Blue Peter and Newsround will continue while looking for further outlets in the area children's television programs. 3. Through work to date established links with BME organisations have been established (e.g. The Voice Newspaper and The Black Power List). Regular requests are received to act as a role model at events targeted at BME groups are received and the fellowship will enable more of these to be accepted in areas further a field. 4. To research and develop of new programs concepts for BBC Year of Science and the Yuri Gagarin space flight anniversary in 2011. Discussions are already underway with production companies and commissioners in this area.
