Funds to purchase a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization, coupled to a liquid chromatograph, is requested by a group of seven NIH funded investigators. The instrument will provide capability for a variety of sensitive and selective quantitative LC/MS analyses, tandem mass spectrometry for structure elucidation, and general LC/MS detection for the core group and other biomolecular researchers at Washington State University. The instrument will be located in the Laboratory for Bioanalysis and Biotechnology, Unit 2, WSU's central MS facility. Research projects to be supported by this instrument include quantitation and characterization of products from P450 mediated reactions; characterization of enzymes and mutant enzymes which catalyze the cyclization of terpenoid substrates; gene expression in somatic and germ cells during spermatogenesis; structural characterization of biologically active muramyl peptides; investigation of A.T specific DNA-binding properties of a human protein; and quantitation and identification of isoprostane biomarkers of oxidative stress.
