Jack Williams' project will be based on using modern on-shell and twistor techniques to study a range of observables in Quantum Field Theories. These will include scattering amplitudes for gauge and gravitational theories, making use of BCFW, MHV, BCJ, (ambi-)twistor string and CHY representations, and also branching out to apply these techniques to more general observables such as correlation functions in gauge theories. It is expected his investigations will make contact with integrability techniques in (special cases of) these theories, as well as the twistor space techniques developed by his supervisor. In gravity, we will be especially interested in developing recursive techniques for analyzing boundary correlation functions in AdS/CFT, with possible application to higher point CMB fluctuations. We will also pay close attention to recent exciting developments on the role of the BMS group in asymptotically flat space-times, and its connection to Weinberg's soft theorems and gravitational memory.
