The Role of Regulation in Making and Securing Maritime Cyberspace

This project will look to understand how the international community will come together and secure maritime cyberspace. To do this the project will firstly discuss the implications and tensions of overlaying the modern concept of cyberspace with that of the current, and the somewhat outdated, concept of the maritime space. It will then look to current maritime security literature, and by using various case studies, including Piracy and Shipping in the Polar Regions, discuss how the maritime sector can understand the threats posed by cyberspace. It will then explore how, through collaboration and the regulatory frameworks already in place within the maritime sector, the international community can create a set of robust and resilient cybersecurity regulation that can stand the test of time.
