Fatherhood in Context: Exploring the impact of economic and cultural resources on fathering practice

I propose an ethnographic study of the various social spaces in which fathering practices are performed. This will enable a nuanced understanding of how fathers make use of the resources at their disposal, and highlight the barriers which prevent certain practices. Ultimately, this research is not about simply observing what fathers do, it is about observing how fathers navigate different levels of wealth or deprivation. At the heart of this study is an observation of the impact of the growing inequality in the UK, as the divide between the richest and the poorest widens, on family life and parenting (Bradley 2015).
