The research will explore the social, political and ethical ideas and political engagement of socially progressive young Muslims and their use of Islam as a means of thinking through personal, political and social issues while simultaneously embracing democratic and pluralist values. The study will focus on young people with an existing interest in social justice and, in some cases, an active political engagement. It will explore why they became interested in politics, their understandings of the contemporary social and political world and the meanings they attach to their actions within a wider conceptual framework that combines a focus on Islamic values, ethics and imagery and a variety of socio-political factors.
