The development of efficient catalytic enantioselective methods to prepare enantiomerically pure bespoke a-amino acid derivatives from cheap, readily available and sustainable chemical building blocks is a significant challenge for the fine chemical industry. Inspired by this need, this project aims to develop versatile and state-of-the-art methodologies for the catalytic enantioselective synthesis of functionalised a-amino acids. This project will provide state-of-the-art solutions to the catalytic enantioselective synthesis of functionalised a-amino acid derivatives through the [1,2]-rearrangement of allylic ammonium ylides. Combined with kinetic and mechanistic studies this will provide a stimulating and challenging CRITICAT PhD project.
