英文摘要
The vision for the PhD lays in an interdisciplinary study of root causes of large infrastructure projectcosts underestimation in the design phase, and in the identification of new big data-driven business opportunities to yield commercial and socio economic benefits across the construction supply chain. I am looking forward to the refinement of this vision based on the full review of the existing body of literature, of the parallel research conducted by EPSRC scholars and the business needs of the construction supply chain. As a team leader in the project working around the innovative Hyperloop system, I have strived towards reconciling the engineering and the humanist approach in socio economic cost benefit analysis and was met with multiple data collection and analysis challenges. The HS2 project will be of high importance given its multi-phased nature, which will allow to compliment big data collection with on-site interviews to construct a case study. Also, the result of my PhD could better inform other projects in the pipeline, such as Crossrail 2 or the Northern Powerhouse Rail. I value the hands-on opportunity to work on a portfolio of Costain projects, to observe the construction processes and continue the engagement with stakeholders of the firm. On a strategic level, the PhD is aiming to improve the productivity of the UK construction sector, increase its attractivity for export, and make the planningof infrastructure affecting citizens fairer.
