The synthesis of light responsive ligands for the photoregulation of DNA is of great importance for a number of biomedical applications. The aim of this project is to create a new classes of ligands that can interact specifically and reversibly with DNA sequences to modulate conformation and function using as an external light stimuli.The binding of these novel ligands to DNA will be tested with a variety of techniques (qPCR, UV, fluorescence, CD, NMR and molecular modelling. The biological activity of these ligands will also be tested with a panel of cancer cells and parasite strains.
